A fractured childhood before you even start

Born in 1955 in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Kelsey grew up in New Jersey after his parents divorced, raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. His grandfather Gordon becomes his pillar, his paternal figure of substitution. But at the age of 12, the boy lost him from cancer. A painful first mourning that leaves deep traces.

A year later, at just 13 years old, his father was shot dead outside his home. The perpetrator is declared criminally irresponsible. The injustice is total. The impotence, overwhelming.

Losses impossible to overcome alone

At the age of 20, while studying theatre at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York, Kelsey learned of the tragic disappearance of his younger sister Karen, kidnapped and murdered in Colorado. An unspeakable pain that he will bear all his life.

When suffering seeks escape

Faced with this cumulation of mourning, Kelsey Grammer admits to having sought to anesthetize his sentence in the 1990's. He confides to Vanity Fair magazine: * “I couldn’t forgive myself for the death of my sister. »*
