BP plans to invest in modern video surveillance and control systems, equipment for the traffic police, and securing risky areas, together with road owners.

This was announced in parliament by Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev after a question from Petar Petrov from Vazrazhdane regarding the report of the Court of Auditors on the spending of funds from the Road Safety Fund."As of May 31, 2026, the transitional balance of funds under the fund amounts to 261,639,358 million euros. They will be used purposefully based on a proposal, both from the structures of the Ministry of Interior, and from other organizations and institutions, and citizens," said the Minister of the Interior.

The fight against road accidents is a priority for the Ministry of Interior, with emphasis placed on prevention, Minister Demerjiev also said:

"The expectations are that our efforts will be directed towards prevention, not towards sanctioning drivers who have violated traffic rules. Cars, as I have already had the opportunity to say, have been brought out of the bushes behind which they were hiding. Cars have the task of actively participating in traffic and actively assisting traffic, and not for their actions to be directed towards covertly sanctioning drivers who in some way violate traffic rules."

At a meeting with the Prime Minister two days ago, measures for a comprehensive approach by the responsible institutions were outlined.

Demerdzhiev gave the example of the State Automobile Inspectorate (DAI), whose employees do not work in the dark due to lack of capacity and thus cannot control the serviceability of heavy goods vehicles. The minister stated that this will be changed.
